# Compatible labelprinters

**Read this before you buy or pair a printer.** On an iPad and on an Android tablet, the Vizito app prints badges through Brother’s own printer software, and only to the Brother models in the table below. A printer of another brand, a Zebra, Dymo, Epson or Star for instance, or a Brother model that is not listed, does not appear in the app’s “Search printer” list, however well it is paired with the tablet. Pairing it over Bluetooth in the tablet’s settings and printing a test page from the manufacturer’s own app proves the printer works; it says nothing about Vizito, which never sees it. The only way to print badges on a printer that is not in the table is the Windows browser kiosk, described at the end of this page.

Vizito automatically prints visitor badges to a small set of carefully tested label printers from Brother. We keep the supported list short on purpose: every model below has been verified end-to-end on iPadOS, Android and Windows so that you do not have to troubleshoot drivers, network discovery or paper sensors yourself.

Which WiFi or Bluetooth labelprinters are supported to automatically print out Visitor badges? Find it out in the table below:

### Choosing the right model

The QL-820NWBc, QL-1110NWBc and QL-1110NWB are the most flexible options: they speak both WiFi and Bluetooth, so you can place them on the same network as the kiosk or pair them directly without a router in between. The Bluetooth fallback is useful in receptions with restrictive guest networks or in pop-up reception desks. The QL-820NWBc replaces the QL-820NWB, which Brother no longer sells; if you already have a QL-820NWB, it keeps working with Vizito. The QL-1110NWBc is Brother’s newer version of the QL-1110NWB, and Vizito supports both. The QL-720NW, QL-710W and QL-810W are WiFi-only and work well in offices with a stable wireless network. The QL-1110NWBc and QL-1110NWB additionally support wider labels, which is the right choice when you want to fit a larger logo or a photo next to the visitor name.

### Why only Brother on a tablet

Badge printing on iPadOS and Android relies on Brother’s native printer software (the Brother SDK), which is what lets the app find the printer over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, choose the label roll and print at the right size without a print dialog. That software only speaks to Brother printers, so:

- **Over Bluetooth**, only the Brother models above are found. A Zebra ZD421 paired in the tablet’s Bluetooth settings stays invisible to Vizito, and so does every other brand.
- **Over Wi-Fi on an iPad**, the app can also hand a badge to a printer through the iPad’s own print system (AirPrint). A printer of another brand that supports AirPrint may show up there and take the badge, but Vizito cannot read which label is loaded, the print is of lower quality, and we cannot help you when it comes out wrong. Treat it as untested.
- **On Android**, there is no such fallback: Brother or nothing.

Other brands, and Brother models that are not on the list above, are therefore not supported by our team. If you already own a label printer that is not listed, contact us before standardising on it so we can advise you.

### Use another printer through the Windows browser kiosk

On Windows, Vizito hands the badge to the operating system, so any printer that has a Windows driver can print badges: a Zebra, a Dymo, an office laser printer, anything Windows can print to. This is the supported way to keep a printer you already own.

1. Run the kiosk in Google Chrome on a Windows PC with a touchscreen instead of on a tablet, as described in [Browser-based kiosk](https://vizito.eu/faq/get-started/browser-based-kiosk/).
2. Install the manufacturer’s Windows driver for your printer and set it as the default printer.
3. Start Chrome with the `--kiosk-printing` flag so badges print without a dialog, and set the label size in the printer’s Windows settings. The full recipe is in [Chrome Badge Printing](https://vizito.eu/faq/badge-printing/browser-based-badge-printing/).

A tablet stays a tablet: you cannot make the iPad or Android app print to that printer through the PC.

### Which label roll to order with it

The printers above take Brother DK rolls. For a reception desk the usual choice is **DK-22205**, 62 mm continuous white adhesive tape, which the printer cuts to the length of each badge. **DK-11202** (62 x 100 mm die-cut) gives every badge the same size, **DK-N55224** (54 mm continuous) is the non-adhesive roll for clip-on badge holders, and **DK-22251** (62 mm continuous black/red) is the one to load when your badge design prints in red.

Other DK rolls work too, from DK-22214 at 12 mm up to DK-22243 at 102 mm, and the tablet reads out of the printer which one is loaded. The full list, what the backoffice shows for each, and the badge holders that fit the non-adhesive roll are in [Compatible labels](https://vizito.eu/faq/badge-printing/label-types/).

### Buying tips

You can buy these Brother printers from most office supply retailers. We recommend ordering one spare roll of DK-22205 continuous tape (or DK-11202 die-cut labels) per kiosk so reception is never blocked by an empty printer at the start of a busy week.
